So excited about this record! Shine and the Moonbeams is a funk/soul band for kids (of all ages). I had the honor of co-producing and mixing their just-released record I Am. All of the songs have great, uplifting, positive messages and the record is like a tour of funk/soul sub-genres. They cover everything from early 60s girl groups, to James Brown, Sly, Prince, “Off the Wall”-era MJ, go-go, straight up Black-Eyed Peas-style pop and more. The ring leaders are vocalist Shawana Kemp and musical director/guitarist Jonathan Heagle (who also played on Lower Power‘s One Planet at a Time.) A lot of great musicians on this record including drummer Russell Carter, bassists Rashaan Carter and Lavando Thomas, backing vocalist/arranger Kenna Ramsey, keyboardist Brad Whitely, saxophonist Stan Killian and trumpeter Les Rogers.
