| Dearest Friends, Colleagues, Fans and Fam, Ben Rubin here. Been waaaay too long since my last update, so I will try to keep this missive on the latest House of Cha Cha happenings brief. | Recent Releases Political hard rock band Lower Power has a new record coming called Ancestors of the Future. Of the first single “Fate Awaits,” maestro Dave Davies of the Kinks recently said “Sounds good … I like it!” on social media. ( :) ) Pat Daugherty is our singer, songwriter and producer, Teddy Kumpel played guitar and mastered, Konrad Meissner played the drums and tracked the band, and I produced, mixed and played the bass. Singles on streaming and full record only at BandCamp. | Next, two singles, "From Lagos to Nola" and "Nomophobia" are out from Yann Jankielewicz, Tony Allen’s longtime musical director, who enlisted me to co-produce his solo debut, Keep It Simple. Think Eddie Harris meets Kraftwerk meets Fela Kuti, featuring Jason Lindner (David Bowie) on synthesizers and Josh Dion (John Scofield, paris_monster) on drums, bass synth and vocals. Then the great Tchad Blake mixed it for us. Full record out March 29. Preorder vinyl here. Also out are: my mixes of singles from Jon Dryden’s film-noir band Drifter, featuring divine vocals from Emily Cavanaugh on "We May Never Have Paris" and Anson Jones on "Emeline" (Jon and I have more Drifter with me on production coming your way soon!); Mitra Sumatra’s record Dream,
a very cool record of covers of 60s and 70s Persian pop hits on which I
played electric bass: Several singles of
Cajun-inspired-jazz-meets-my-weird production from vocalist/songwriter Juliet Varnedoe, featuring cats like Clark Gayton, Shawn Pelton, Dennis Lichtman, Jon Dryden, and more. "Best of Ben Rubin" streaming playlists: Tidal | Apple Music | Spotify | March 2024 Releases This Friday, March 8, “Esmerelda”, the first single from stellar singer/songwriter/guitarist KJ Denhert drops. I was fortunate to mix this track as well as several others on the full record, The Evening News, out March 29. KJ and I are also hard at work at some new music so look out for that in the near future. Out on March 15 (and mixed by me) is The Transcendental (Steeplechase), the second duo record from pianist Nicki Adams and tenor saxophonist Michael Eaton. It’s a beautiful blend of jazz and classical music that I highly recommend. Preorder a CD here. Also wanted to give a shout-out to the singer/songwriter Asa Bry, a 19 year-old phenom with whom I’m working on Anatomy,
a sleek hybrid of indie rock with some 80s synth-pop and recent EDM
(our third record together). We enlisted Josh Dion on drums and Chet Doxas
on tenor sax for this EP and they supercharged his singular
songwriting. This is also my first record using an AKAI MPC One +
instead of my trusty 2000XL. It's going great. (Asa is not signed so hit
me up if you’re interested in hearing a sneak peek.) There's quite a bit more music in progress over here so apologies to anyone whose music was omitted. | Now Let's Get to Work! I would love to make some music with you.
So please reach out about producing, mixing, bass playing, mix
consultations, or lessons so we can get started! I been acquiring new
gear (like synths, pedals and drums) and refurbing my old (like the
Wurly and more synths) so come over and use them! I've been doing a lot
of co-writing lately, and I love helping folks get the most out of
themselves. More importantly, I’d really love to know what you’re up to. Let’s connect. Thanks for reading this far down. Don't forget to be kind to yourself! Love and light, Ben | ========================================================= You
