Dearest Friends, Colleagues, Fans and Fam,

We are nearing winter and I hope the past few months have been productive, uplifting and safe for you. At least on occasion. For me this is a season of gratitude and I am so thankful in so many ways.

Got a quick update for you on the latest happenings here at my studio House of Cha Cha for the past couple few months.

A Grammy Nomination!

Big congrats to the 1Tribe Collective crew for a Grammy Nomination in the Children's Music category for the record All One Tribe, a compilation of 26 Black Family Music artists. I had the honor of co-producing and mixing the track "I Believe" by the fantastic Shine and the Moonbeams. You can hear it and the rest of their funky funky record I Am here. (If you're an Academy member, please consider voting for this record.)

In other news, a provocative animated video for the Analog Players Society x Masta Ace single "Home in America" by the great Olise Forel is nearing completion and should arrive early next year. Also dropping early next year will be my episode of the podcast Recording Studio Rock Stars with Lij Shaw as well as the video for my recent JazzHeaven.com Master Class on producing and mixing your own records. (My next Master Class, on Advanced Production Techniques, will take place on Feb 20, 2022.)

Recent Releases

Wanted to briefly bring your attention to a couple of recent releases in which I've been involved. Please check out Little Bird in the Neighbourhood, the new record by folk-rocker James Maddock. The songwriting is stellar and I played the upright bass throughout. The record also features the likes of Aaron Comess, Brian Mitchell, Steve Wickham, David Immergluck, Ben Stivers and Craig Dreyer.

Don't miss the new single "Reno Girls" from Jon Dryden's band Drifter, featuring a great vocal from Moses Patrou, Will Graefe on guitars, Aron Caceres on bass, Dan Rieser on drums, and mixed by me.

Pat Daugherty of Lower Power at House of Cha Cha

Upcoming Stuff

I have quite a few records in the can or in production including a new record from Lower Power, maestro Pat Daugherty's brain-child, featuring Teddy Kumpel on guitar, Konrad Meissner on drums and me on bass. It will be rocking hard at a device near you in early 2022. Please check our first record, One Planet at a Time, since you probably missed it due to its late Feb 2020 release!

I've been slowly demoing songs with the great vocalist Theo Bleckmann for a record we're co-producing called Staying Alive. It will be a twisted interpolations of disco classics to honor the memory of all the gay men we lost to AIDS during the epidemic of the 80s and 90s.

Out next year will be a new track from my old friend Patti Rothberg (we had a band together in jr high and high school!) on which I play upright bass. It's a cover of Laura Nyro's "Poverty Train," produced by Freddie Katz and featuring Tommy Mandel on keys and Steve Holley on drums.

I also recently finished mixing and mastering pianist and compadre Dred Scott's homage to the Pacific Jazz label so look for that next year as well.
